Semiclassical Transition in φ 4 Theory ∗

چکیده

We have shown an example of semiclassical transition in φ4 theory with positive coupling constant. This process can be described by the classical O(4)-invariant solution, considered on a contour in the complex time plane. The transition is technically analogous to the oneinstanton transition in the electroweak model. It is suppressed by the factor exp(−2S0) , where S0 is Lipatov instanton action. This process describes a semiclassical transition between two coherent states with much smaller number of particles in the initial state than in the final state. Therefore, it could be relevant to the problem of calculation of amplitudes for multiparticle production in φ4-type models. Se p 19 93 Examples of Semiclassical Instanton - Like Scattering : Massless φ 4 and SU ( 2 ) Gauge Theories

Two-parameter sets of solutions to the classical field equations in the mass-less φ 4 model and SU(2) gauge theory are found, each solution presumably describing a multi-particle instanton-like transition at high energy. In the limit of small number of initial particles, the probability of the transition is suppressed by exp(−2S 0), where S 0 is the instanton action.

The semiclassical propagator in field theory

We consider scalar field theory in a changing background field. As an example we study the simple case of a spatially varying mass for which we construct the semiclassical approximation to the propagator. The semiclassical dispersion relation is obtained by consideration of spectral integrals and agrees with the WKB result. Further we find that, as a consequence of localization, the semiclassic...
